What Is an EAN Barcode Generator?

EAN-13 is the most widely scanned barcode in the world: it's the code on every supermarket product outside North America (and on most North American products too, since UPC-A is a subset of EAN-13 with an implicit leading 0). EAN-8 is the compressed form for products too small to fit the full 13-digit symbol.

This tool accepts either the data-only form (12 digits for EAN-13, 7 for EAN-8) and computes the check digit using the standard weighted-mod-10 formula, or the full form including a supplied check digit which it validates. The symbol is rendered locally — your digits never leave the browser.

To use these codes on real retail products you need a company prefix from GS1 (the global standards body). For internal SKU tracking you can use any digits, but supermarket scanners won't recognise them as registered products.
