What Is a Sign PDF?
Adding a visible signature to a PDF is the digital equivalent of signing a printed page. It is widely used for approving forms, contracts and letters that do not require a formal certificate-based digital signature. The signature is drawn onto the page as an image overlay, leaving the rest of the document untouched.
This tool offers two ways to sign. You can type your name and have it rendered in a cursive script on a transparent canvas, which is then embedded as a PNG. Or you can upload a scan or photo of your real signature as a PNG or JPG. The chosen image is placed on the page and corner you select, scaled to a sensible size, using pdf-lib's image embedding (the PDF standard, ISO 32000, supports embedding both PNG and JPEG image data).
This is a visual signature, equivalent to ink on paper — it is not a cryptographic PKI signature backed by a certificate and is not tamper-evident. For legally binding e-signatures with an audit trail, use a dedicated e-signature service. Everything here runs locally; your document never leaves the browser.
