What Is an Add Page Numbers to PDF?
Page numbers make a document easy to cite, reference and reassemble after printing. Many PDFs — especially ones built by merging or scanning — arrive with no numbering at all. Adding numbers as a final step is quick and keeps the document self-describing.
This tool draws each number as real text using the built-in Helvetica font defined by the PDF standard (ISO 32000), positioned in a small margin so it rarely overlaps your content. Because Helvetica is one of the 14 standard fonts every PDF viewer carries, no font file is embedded and the output stays small and universally readable. The numbers are drawn directly onto the existing pages rather than as an overlay image, so they print sharply at any zoom.
You control the corner (bottom or top, left, centre or right), the font size, and the starting number — useful for skipping a cover page or continuing a sequence from an earlier volume. Processing happens with pdf-lib in your browser; the file is never uploaded.
