PNG is a lossless format that preserves every pixel and supports an alpha (transparency) channel, which makes it large but perfect for logos and screenshots. JPEG is lossy and has no alpha channel, so it compresses photographic content far more aggressively — ideal when file size and broad compatibility matter more than perfect fidelity.

Because JPEG cannot store transparency, this converter first paints a white background onto the canvas and then draws your PNG on top. Without that step, transparent pixels would turn black. A quality slider controls the JPEG encoder's quantization so you can balance size against artifacts.
