Domain age is the time since a domain was first registered, taken from the creation date in its WHOIS record. This tool subtracts that date from today to report the age in years and also shows the expiry date. A domain can change owners many times while keeping its original creation date, so age reflects the name's history, not the current site's content.

Age is often overstated as a ranking signal. Google has said the registration date carries little weight; what helps is an established record of quality content and earned links, which older domains are simply more likely to have. Age matters most when buying a domain: a long, unbroken history suggests stability, while a recent creation date on a name you expected to be old may mean it lapsed and was re-registered, sometimes resetting the date.

The data comes from a third-party WHOIS API that the site owner must configure with a key; without it the tool shows a notice. Because registries handle lapsed-and-renewed domains differently, the creation date reflects whatever the provider returns for the current registration.
