  2. Choose a mode: auto-detect, force all to domain-level, or keep everything as URLs.
  3. Review the formatted disavow.txt and the entry count.
  4. Copy the text or download it as disavow.txt.
  5. Upload the file in Google Search Console's disavow links tool for the correct property.

What Is a Disavow File Generator?

A disavow file is a plain-text file uploaded to Google Search Console's disavow tool that asks Google to ignore specific backlinks when assessing your site. Its format is simple but strict: one entry per line; a bare line listing a full URL disavows just that page, while a line prefixed with domain: disavows every link from that host; lines beginning with # are treated as comments.

This generator takes a messy paste — domains, full URLs, www prefixes, mixed casing — and normalises it. In auto mode it adds domain: to bare hostnames and leaves full URLs as URLs; you can also force everything to domain-level or URL-level. It strips www, deduplicates entries, preserves your comments, and outputs a clean disavow.txt you can copy or download ready for upload.

Use disavow sparingly. Google generally ignores spammy links on its own, and the disavow tool is intended for sites recovering from a manual action for unnatural links or facing a clear, harmful link pattern you cannot get removed. The file is built entirely in your browser; your link list is never uploaded anywhere except, when you choose, to Search Console.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a disavow file?
A plain-text file uploaded to Google Search Console that asks Google to ignore specific backlinks or whole domains when assessing your site, used to address manipulative or spammy links.
Domain or single URL?
Use the domain: prefix to disavow every link from a site; list a full URL on its own to disavow just that page. The generator adds domain: when you enter a bare hostname.
Should most sites use disavow?
No. Google generally ignores spammy links automatically. Disavow only after a manual action for unnatural links, or when you have clear evidence of a harmful link pattern.
